A few weeks ago I photographed a family of 10 in Bramcote Park, Nottingham. I had previously photographed this family but as a smaller group of mum, dad and three children. This time they wanted to include extended family members who happened to be visiting for a short time.
What to wear is always a question that crops up and I do my best to guide clients away from the obvious things to avoid, such as clashing, bold colours or bid logos on t-shirts etc. If my clients are on Pinterest I ask them to look at my section on “What to wear to your shoot”, where I have pinned some ideas of clothing combinations that I think would look good in a group family photo.
The weather is usually the next problem. “What if it’s raining on the day?” I am often asked. I usually reply, “Let’s hope it’s not!” But more realistically, if it is, it doesn’t usually rain heavily non stop. There are usually breaks between the downpours and that’s when we will be shooting. There are also plenty of sheltered areas in the parks and woods where I photograph families and the kids have lots of fun finding shelter from the rain.
This shoot was on a day that was rainy and very windy too! We were all prepared and the family were very patient. I think we did very well. Judge for yourselves.
